Early Years Educator

Level 3

Early Years Educators are highly trained professionals who play a crucial role in ensuring that young children learn and develop well and are kept healthy and safe. They work in various settings, including full-day care, children’s centres, preschools, reception classes, and as childminders. This apprenticeship prepares individuals to plan and supervise child-initiated and adult-led activities, support children’s learning and development, and work collaboratively with colleagues, parents, and other professionals to meet the individual needs of each child.

  • Safeguarding and child protection policies and procedures.
  • Health and safety requirements in early years settings.
  • Principles of observation, assessment, and planning.
  • Strategies for supporting children’s speech, language, and communication.
  • Inclusive practices and understanding of equality and diversity.
  • Planning and leading activities that promote children’s development.
  • Observing and assessing children’s progress to inform planning.
  • Providing a safe, nurturing, and stimulating environment.
  • Supporting children’s transitions and emotional well-being.
  • Building positive relationships with children, families, and colleagues.
  • Reflecting on practice and engaging in continuous professional development
  • Professionalism and commitment to the role.

  • Typically completed within 18 months, including off-the-job training
  • End-Point Assessment typically completed within 3 months following on-programme learning
  • Apprentices must successfully complete a Level 2 Early Years Practitioner qualification or the equivalent.
  • Apprentices without Level 2 English and maths will need to achieve this level prior to taking their end-point assessment.
  • Apprentices must successfully complete a first aid qualification in line with the requirements of the EYFS Framework.

Level 3 Early Years Educator Apprenticeship

  • Opportunities to progress into roles such as Room Leader, Deputy Manager, or Nursery Manager.
